Fan Rewards FAQ
Fan Rewards are an optional way for artists in selected interviews to offer readers a chance to receive a personal item. A Fan Reward is open only when its interview clearly says it is active and provides the entry details and official rules.

What is a Fan Reward?
A Fan Reward is a chance-based reader activity attached to one selected artist interview. When an artist chooses to participate, a reader may engage with that interview and enter for a chance to receive the item described on the page. It is meant to make interviews more participatory and help music discovery feel like a game, while keeping the artist story at the center.
When is a Fan Reward open?
A Fan Reward is open only on a published interview that clearly says it is open and shows its prize, opening and closing dates, eligibility, entry instructions, and official rules. Choosing the Fan Reward discussion option on the artist submission form does not open a reward. If an interview does not show an active Fan Reward panel, it is not accepting entries.
Does an artist have to offer a Fan Reward?
No. Artist participation is optional. Offering or declining a Fan Reward never affects whether Indie Music Bus chooses an artist for an interview, review, playlist, Song Story, feature, or Of Absolute Importance. An interview selection also does not guarantee that a Fan Reward will be offered.
Does offering one guarantee readers or new fans?
No. Fan Rewards are intended to encourage reading, discovery, and voluntary sharing, but Indie Music Bus cannot promise visits, entries, sales, followers, or new fans. An artist can decide whether the personal value of the item and the agreed fulfillment work make sense.
What can the reward be?
The reward may be a handwritten lyric sheet, signed keepsake, or another personal item the artist has agreed to provide. The combined approximate value of all prizes in one Fan Reward will not exceed $30 USD. Normal shipping paid by the sponsor does not count toward that limit.
Who provides and sends the item?
Before a Fan Reward opens, its page will explain exactly what the item is, its approximate value, where it can be sent, who will send it, how the winner can claim it, and what happens if it cannot be delivered. Fans will not be asked to buy merchandise or pay for editorial consideration.
How does reader entry work?
On an interview with an active Fan Reward, spend a little time with the article and then press and hold the progress button. A timed accessible option is also available. Completing either interaction briefly reserves a unique hyphenated two-word code. Enter your email address, confirm that you meet the eligibility rules, and agree to the official rules. You do not need to copy or type the code, and merely viewing the page does not enter you. Indie Music Bus then emails you a single-use confirmation link. Open it before it expires and before the Fan Reward closes. The code becomes one eligible base chance only after the email address is confirmed.
Why use a delay and hold control?
The short wait and hold make the entry more deliberate and discourage some automated entries. They cannot prove that someone read every word or block every bot. The entry process also checks that the reward is open, the code is valid and unused, the email is confirmed, and the same email address has not already been used for that reward.
Will a purchase or payment be required?
No purchase is required as a condition of entry. Buying merchandise, following an account, subscribing to a newsletter, paying a fee, or supporting Indie Music Bus is not required for a base entry. The official rules on each active Fan Reward state the complete entry conditions.
Will entry require a mouse?
No. The entry controls work with keyboard, touch, and assistive technology. A timed option is available for someone who cannot press and hold. Progress and errors are presented without relying only on color or motion. If an active reward presents an accessibility problem, stop and use the contact route so Indie Music Bus can address it.
How are email addresses and newsletters handled?
Your email address is private. It is used only to confirm and administer the entry, apply the entry limit, contact a potential winner, and handle the claim. Fan Reward entry does not include a newsletter checkbox, and it never subscribes you automatically. If a newsletter choice is added later, it will be separate, optional, and unchecked. The rules for each active Fan Reward explain how long entry information is kept and how it is removed.
Can sharing add chances to win?
No. Sharing does not add chances now, and Fan Reward referral links are not currently offered. If that changes later, the official rules for an active reward will explain exactly how it works. A view or click alone will not add a chance.
Can readers enter through other interviews?
Each Fan Reward belongs to one interview. If another interview has its own active Fan Reward, you may enter that reward separately. Each one follows its own dates, eligibility, entry limit, prize, and official rules.
How will a winner be selected and announced?
After entry closes, no one can be added to the group from which the winner is chosen. The winner is selected in the way described in that reward's official rules. The potential winner is contacted privately and must complete the stated claim steps. If a public result is provided, it says only that the reward was completed and the item was delivered. It does not publish the winner's identity or reader code.
What happens if a reward cannot continue?
The active page and official rules will explain what happens if a Fan Reward is paused or cancelled, a potential winner does not claim the item, or the item cannot be delivered as planned. A reward will not open when important prize, rules, dates, eligibility, privacy, or delivery details are missing.
Which terms control an active Fan Reward?
This FAQ gives a general overview. It is not an entry form. The official rules shown with each active Fan Reward are the final word about who can enter, the dates, the prize, the entry limit, sharing, winner selection, claiming and receiving the item, privacy, and cancellations. Do not enter if the interview does not provide those details clearly.
For artists
Interested in an interview?
Use the artist form to share your music and choose Interview. You may then check the separate, optional box saying that you are open to discussing a Fan Reward. That choice gives Indie Music Bus permission to discuss the idea with you. It does not commit you to provide an item, open a reward, or change any editorial decision.

No interview is accepting Fan Reward entries unless it clearly says the reward is open.
